In response to requests from the inshore fishing industry, raised through the Regional Fisheries Groups (RFGs), the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has developed a set of infographics and short videos to help explain the goals and progress of the first five Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs), published in December 2023.

Spotlight on the whelk FMP

The Whelk FMP for English waters is one of the first published plans and aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of whelk stocks and the fishers who depend on them.

What’s happening now?

We’re committed to transparency and keeping our stakeholders informed as the FMPs are implemented.

To support this, the RFG team has created an infographic which outlines current actions, achievements, and next steps.

It will be updated regularly and shared across:

  • this blog
  • FMP working groups
  • the RFG mailing list
  • MMO’s social media channels
Infographic titled '2023 Developments in English Waters Updates,' detailing nine initiatives by various organizations including MMO and GMP related to English marine management for December 2023. It includes updates on fisheries management, habitat protection, data collection, and scientific studies.

Goals of the whelk FMP

We have also created an infographic and video to show the FMP goals and why they will help.

Learn about the goals of the whelk FMP and why they were chosen:

An informative poster titled "Why a Fisheries Management Plan for Whelk?" It includes sections on the goals of the management plan, the importance of sustainable fishery practices, the management plan contents like a summary, objectives, and measures listed in the plan. Icons visualizing fish, gear, and environmental interactions enhance understanding. Contact information and further resources are available at the bottom.
