2026 FMP consultation events FAQ

Defra is holding events for the fisheries management plans (FMPs) being consulted on from 10 February to 5 May 2026:

  • Celtic Sea and Western Channel demersal FMP
  • Celtic Sea and Western Channel pelagic FMP
  • Wrasses complex FMP
  • Seabream FMP

This page covers some of the frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the consultation events

What events are you holding?

We are holding online events (webinars) early in the consultation period. These are to give information on the draft plans being consulted on and answer any early questions.

These will be followed by in-person events in the South and South West which build on the engagement that took place during the development of the draft FMPs.

At our in-person events we will take feedback on the proposals which will be fed into consultations. Recordings of the webinars will be shared in advance to prepare attendance.

We invite all stakeholders with an interest to attend these events to discuss the plans with us and other stakeholders.

Is there a cost to attend?

No. All events are free.

How will my views be submitted to the consultations?

Feedback shared at events will be recorded and included in the consultation process but will not be attributed to individuals.

At our in-person events, our team will stay for up to an hour following the event and can take individual consultation responses from attendees.

We encourage you to submit an individual response at any time during the consultation period, whether you came to an event or not.

What is the agenda?

Online: We will give a summary of the work completed so far in drafting the FMP and allow time for any questions.

In-person: We’ll work through the consultation questions, giving context. Attendees can share their views and ask questions.

Do I need to book a place?

Yes, please reserve a place in advance so that we can accommodate everyone and share important information before the event.

You do not need to set up an account - just give a few details on a form to reserve a place.

You will be sent an email to confirm your place. You can manage your booking from this email so keep it safe.

  • Online: Our online events are held using Microsoft Teams webinars.

You need to register to receive a link to join our webinars. A stable internet connection is needed for webinars; camera and microphone are optional

  • In-person: We have chosen Ticket Tailor to manage bookings for our in-person events.

We will share key information ahead of the event so everyone attending is aware of the proposals and can come prepared to discuss them.

Help: If you need support to make a booking, please email FMPs@defra.gov.uk, or speak to your IFCA or RFG representative.

If you arrive on the day without a booking, we will need to take your details at the door and those that have pre-booked will have priority.

How do I sign in at an in-person event?

Please give your name to the team when you arrive.

What is expected of attendees?

We ask that everyone take part respectfully and allow space for others to contribute. To ensure a positive experience for all, anyone behaving disruptively or offensively may be asked to step away from the event.

Will you provide any refreshments?

We aim to provide water, tea and coffee at in-person events.

Will the events be recorded or photographed?

The presentation section of online events will be recorded and published on YouTube. The Q&A part will not be published for privacy reasons.

We may take photos or videos at in-person events for use in FMP communications.

We will aim to take these so that individuals can't be identified. This may be unavoidable, so your consent will be requested when you reserve a place. Please note that if you decline, you must identify yourself to the team on the day.

How do I tell you about accessibility needs?

Please share any accessibility requirements in advance on the booking form or email FMPs@defra.gov.uk. We will do our best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee this.

What if I can no longer attend?

See your confirmation email for instructions on how to cancel your place directly through the site you booked. If you need help, please email FMPs@defra.gov.uk

Where can I find your Privacy Policy?

Each FMP consultation has its own privacy notice related to individual consultation responses. You can find it in the consultation documents.
