Today, the Scottish Government is launching a public consultation on five proposed joint UK fisheries management plans (FMPs).
The plans cover:
- North Sea herring
- West Coast of Scotland (and Clyde) herring
- Atlanto-Scandian herring
- Northern Shelf mackerel
- Northern Shelf blue whiting
The FMPs were developed jointly by Defra, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) in Northern Ireland, the Welsh Government and the Scottish Government which coordinated the work.
The plans bring together evidence about the current state of these pelagic fish stocks and how they are managed. They also set out policies and actions to restore stocks where needed and keep them healthy and sustainable for the future.
