Today, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), is launching public consultations on two proposed joint UK fisheries management plans (FMPs).
The FMPs have been developed jointly by DAERA, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Welsh Government.
They bring together evidence on the state of the Irish Sea fish stocks and the current management approach. They also set out proposed policies and actions to help restore or maintain the stocks at sustainable levels.
Respond to the consultations
We want to hear from fishermen, seafood businesses, environmental groups and anyone with an interest in the future management of Irish Sea fisheries.

You can respond online, by email or by post until 11:59pm on 21 October 2026.
Consultation events
DAERA will be planning online engagement sessions over the coming months. These sessions will give you an opportunity to learn more about the proposals and share your views.
